There is a documentary called ‘Degenerate Art: The Art and Culture of Glass Pipes’ that actually covers the history and relevance of Bob Snodgrass and his art. How it was first sold at Grateful Dead shows in the parking lot and helped grow borosilicate glass art. How Bob invented fuming glass with precious metals, and many other aspects of glass art. A lot of firsts with Bob as he was a pioneer. A genuine Snodgrass is as much a piece of history as it is a piece of glass art.
A beautiful signed Deadhead hammer by Bob Snodgrass. The can has a large Deadhead face looking right as you look at the can, over more under the carb . This is a large Face with sculpted eyes and fumed face. It will show up more with the color change no doubt. On the opposite back side of the can is another smaller Deadhead face looking backwards with sculpted eyes and fumed face. Beautiful fuming on this really shines with hues of different colors showing up in the light. Those colors will all change during the color change that happens with use. The heavy silver fuming on the stem shows blue. There is a Deadhead near the mouthpiece that looks at you at you bring the mouthpiece up for a draw. Bob signed this “Snodgrass” in large letters in thick gold fuming in a circle on the bottom of the can. The gold fuming of the signature is so thick the bottom of the can takes on a pink look as a result. So you have a fumed signature by the man who invented fuming on this piece. There’s also a mille on the face of the can. Some hidden aspects of fuming will only show up during the color change with use. I have no doubt that signature will be interesting. 7 inches long, 3 inches high, and 2 inches wide made this a pretty standard sized hammer. Amazing glass art from Bob Snodgrass and we all thank Bob for our Snoddy!
