Description
There is a documentary called ‘Degenerate Art: The Art and Culture of Glass Pipes’ that actually covers the history and relevance of Bob Snodgrass and his art, how it was first sold at Grateful Dead shows in the parking lot and helped grow borosilicate glass art. Bob invented many aspects of borosilicate glass art like fuming the glass with precious metals. A genuine Snodgrass is as much a piece of history as it is a piece of glass art.
This is the old style basic Tophat by Bob Snodgrass. This is initialed and dated in the boro with an “S” for Snodgrass in the fuming on the bottom of the face. There is a sculpted “18” in the boro on the back of the face. These are most affordable signed Tophats we’ve ever had. This will be a real scoop for someone out there. Beautiful fuming is thick all over and there are a lot of color hues all over the piece. On the stem is a logo in handwriting script that says “Glass by Snodgrass” with a small skull emblem. We choose our Tophats for face quality and this is a fantastic face on the Deadhead. Everything is tight, clean and symmetrical. This pipe has no carb on it. This is how the original style of Tophat was made that used to be bounced off the pavement at Grateful Dead shows. 4.5 inches long, 2.75 inches high, and 1.25 inches wide makes this basic a smaller sized Tophat. Amazing glass art from Bob Snodgrass!
