Description

Brian McCauley, aka gasp, discovered glass flameworking in 1998. Inspired by the autonomy and creativity of the pipe making scene he spent the next 5 years engrossed in glass. Part of the 2nd wave of pipemakers, his style pushed the boundaries of shaping and patterning, incorporating the influence of San Francisco’s urban culture and street art. Later that year, gasp relocated to Portland, OR, where he began to explore more classic forms.

Gasp uses a variety of techniques to elicit an emotional response from the viewer. From subtle layering of gold and silver fume, to heavily saturated colored glass and vibrant transparents, the color and pattern create a body of work that maximizes light play within the glass.

This is a beautiful fumed Gasplock by Gasp with purple Gold Amethyst by Molten Aura over Northstar Yellow. A classic Sherlock pipe in his style of shaping and fume. The complex blend of color here is brown at a glance. Purple and yellow are opposites on the color wheel and they produce brown. But the hues of complex color in sunlight are red, violet, purple, and brown. Some of the hues show in the photos. Beautiful colors and a variety of fuming approaches make this an interesting piece from any angle you choose. The fumicello marble is fantastic and it naturally falls under the fingers. This makes for a confident one-hand hold that can easily work the carb with the thumb. Such an interesting pipe by Gasp!

The generous carb makes control of your pull easy. Great ergonomics on this. 5.75 inches deep, 2.5 inches wide with marble and carb included, and 4.5 inches high make this a longer Gasplock that’s still easy to handle. Beautiful work from Gasp One out of Portland, OR!
