Description

There is a documentary called ‘Degenerate Art: The Art and Culture of Glass Pipes’ that actually covers the history and relevance of Bob Snodgrass and his art. How it was first sold at Grateful Dead shows in the parking lot and helped grow borosilicate glass art. How Bob invented fuming boro with precious metals. It’s a long list of firsts. The Snodgrass family is a family of glass artists who all came up under Bob’s teaching, and they have glass art in their DNA. They live in a compound in Eugene, Oregon where they all blow glass together. Bob’s family creates beautiful glass in the Snodgrass style. We’re excited to have these pieces in our gallery!

This is a fumed Tophat by Jonathan Gietl and Ginny Snodgrass. It’s heavily accented with UV reactive glass. When you hit this one with a UV light it’s stunning. The concentric rings of UV reactive Deadheads down them stem are fantastic. There are three Deadhead faces in the bowl that are UV enhanced.  The Tophat face is also UV enhanced. There are also dot flourishes on the side that are UV enhanced, and the dimples make for an easier to handle pipe.

All of the UV reactive worked in to this makes for a unique tone in sunlight. There’s are several color tones  in there making for an interesting array of hues depending on the nature of the light. Such a clean, heady piece by Ginny and Jonathan. Perfect size hand pipe at 5 inches long, 1.5 inches wide and 2.75 inches in height. A unique and interesting Tophat in any light! Beautiful work from Ginny Snodgrass and Jonathon Gietl!

Please note: The UV photos are from a similar piece, to give you a good idea of the reaction under UV light.
